Verona is known all over the world for its great wines. There are many guides that help the consumer to choose and, as often happens, too much information creates confusion.

We want to report here some details that seem useful to us for planning your WINE TOUR and that will help you in the tastings in the cellar.

Amarone, Recioto and Valpolicella are all wines produced with the same blend.

CORVINA VERONESE, CORVINONE, RONDINELLA, MOLINARA and OSELETA

The uniqueness of Veronese wine compared to all other great Italian wines lies right here:

“While other great Italian reds are made from a single grape variety, these great Veronese reds are the combination of native grapes that are expertly combined by the winemaker!”

In a WINE TOUR you will not only appreciate the TERRITORY, but also the precise choices of the winemaker. Therefore, more than any other Italian wine, in the Veronese you will discover:

TERRITORY, VINTAGE, GRAPES

the CORVINA grape gives STRUCTURE to the wine

the grape CORVINONE PERFUMES and AMONIA

the RONDINELLA grape gives SUGAR and fragrance

the MOLINARA grape gives ACIDITY

the OSELETA grape strengthens the STRUCTURE and enriches the olfactory richness

All these grapes come from NATIVE VINES, or ORIGINALS OF OUR TERRITORY, not transplanted from other areas!

the advantage of having different grapes is to reduce the vintage effect in the wine that will be produced.

Now other indications to be able to better read the LABEL of a wine. These rules apply to our wines as well as to other Italian areas.

Regarding the TERRITORY for the production of Valpolicella there is a very specific production area called CLASSICA. So, when we find “CLASSIC” written next to the name of the wine, it means that it was produced in a very specific geographical area. The CLASSIC denomination area is shown below.

The word SUPERIORE can also be found on the label. Valpolicella wine receives the denomination of superior when the aging in oak barrels takes place for a minimum of 12 months starting from January 1st following the harvest and the alcohol content is higher than 12%.

Another frequent annotation found on the label is the wording RIPASSO, which indicates a particular production process where the wine is “passed over” precisely in the marc of the amarone, so as to guarantee the wine greater structure and strength!

With these little notions you have the tools to deepen the great Veronese reds and read each label. Good wine tour!
