Among the destinations that we normally recommend to visit our customers, the medieval cities of Bassano del Grappa and Marostica cannot be missing. They are the object of a unique visit because they are close to each other, just as unique is the history that binds them over the centuries.

The name Bassano should derive from the Roman Bassius or Bassianus family, owner of the large estate. Bassano was opposed to Angarano, on the right bank of the river, and probably around the year one thousand dates the construction of a bridge replaced in 1569, by the famous bridge designed by Palladio, today the symbol of the city.

In medieval times the territory was owned by the bishops of Vicenza who ceded it to the Ezzelini, and the agglomeration became a fortified city. As for most of the Venetian cities, the ‘donation’ to Venice dates back to 1404.

During the First World War it was the main logistic center after the defeat of Caporetto and the castle on the Grappa, a mountain inextricably linked to the geographical and historical profile of the city.

The most famous of Bassano’s monuments is the Ponte Vecchio, designed by Palladio and rebuilt several times, the last time after the Second World War. It is surrounded by famous taverns and grapperie and a small museum of the Alpine troops.

The nearby town of MAROSTICA is another place to visit. Another beautiful medieval village, the city is famous for the game of chess with living characters organized every year in September.
